Police Commissioner, Esala Teleni has reminded  members of the Disciplined Forces that they must remain effective and relevant as human security is becoming more and more important today.

He made these comments in closing the National Security Awareness Seminar held at the Police Academy in Nasova this week.

“It is very important that leaders must understand the notion of security issues.

“Understanding of Security Issues in particular National Security is very important.

“As a leader you must know what is sovereignty and human security.

“National Security is maintaining sovereignty, territorial, border integrity, preserving Fiji’s cohesiveness and protecting Fiji’s interest home and abroad,” Commander Teleni said.

He adds that as security personnel they must honor security principles in developing self reliance and relevant security capabilities.

“Our Security is linked inextricably to the security of the region and global.

“We must not only focus on prisoners, we must also focus on security in the region” he said.

He said the change in leadership culture will bring about the right equipment and systems therefore leaders must allow time to review themselves.

“As a leader, people must be first in security, it is all about the notion of peace and stability.

“It is all about networking and understanding,” he said.
