The Deputy Secretary at the PM’s Office, Mr Nemani Mati says poverty is a serious issue with growing challenges facing the people and the Government.
As part of government’s roadmap for democracy and sustainable socio-economic development, the government has tasked the Poverty Eradication Unit in the Prime Minister’s office to organize the National Poverty Week campaign in all major divisions around the country.
Mr Mati made these comments during consultations on Poverty Week that was held at the Parliament complex yesterday.
The consultations also consisted of representatives from faith based organisations in Fiji.
“To be in sync with the international theme, Fiji will be adopting “Working Together out of Poverty” as the theme for this year’s activities,” he said.
“This year, the actual day falls on a Sunday, and we will set in motion meeting activities for the week ahead.”
Mr Mati said the presence of church leaders will greatly assist the preparations of the National Day of Eradication of Poverty to be held on October 17th.
