The Governments of the Republic of Fiji and the Republic of Togo have formalised diplomatic relations in a ceremony held yesterday at the Fiji Mission to the United Nations in New York.
The permanent representative of Togo to the United Nations, Ambassador Kodjo Menan and his Fiji counterpart, Ambassador Peter Thomson had signed a joint communiqué establishing diplomatic relations dated May 31, 2011.
The communiqué affirms the desire of the two countries to promote mutual understanding and strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation between their countries, guided by the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of international law.
This promotion of understanding will be based on principles of international peace and security, inviolability of borders, and non-interference in the internal affairs of States.
In yesterday’s discussions, the two envoys agreed to work together to advance the interests of their countries at the United Nations and to explore opportunities for beneficial exchanges between Fiji and Togo.
The signing ceremony was attended by Counsellor Luke Daunivalu of the Fiji Mission and Counsellor Waké Yagninim of the Togo Mission.
