Tourism Fiji to host 55 Matai Specialists

22/03/2010

Tourism Fiji will be hosting 55 Fiji Matai specialists from New Zealand. The NZ matais are travel consultants and wholesalers specialising in promoting and selling Fiji, says Tourism Fiji chairman Mr Patrick Wong.

The group will visit all regions in Fiji - the North, Pacific Coast (Pacific Harbour), Coral Coast, Nadi, Mamanuca/Yasawa and the Sunshine Coast (Rakiraki).

The visit, according to Mr Wong, is timely especially after Cyclone Tomas reassuring our partners that it is business as usual and the Fijian experience is here for all to enjoy.

“The visit  also updates the consultants with different products Fiji has to offer showcasing the diversity of our product,” Mr Wong said.

In addition, the consultants will receive first-hand experience and return home reporting that Fiji’s tourism industry is vibrant with smiling face and warm Fijian hospitality.

While New Zealand is our second major source market, Mr Wong adds that it is important to maintain our market presence, maintaining volume and growth out of this important market source.

“Over the years much branding has been with Fiji Me on television, drive to fijime.com <http://fijime.com>  and the result now is to convert the awareness created and interest into actual visitor arrivals creating Fiji as an "aspirational holiday destination,” Mr Wong emphasized.
