Tourism arrivals increase

The Attorney General and Minister for Tourism says Tourism Fiji and Air Pacific amongst other tourism agencies must be commended for the recent increase in visitor arrivals recorded in July.

He made the comments during a press briefing at Government Buildings today.

“We are very pleased to see the numbers has surpassed records of any other year,” he said.

“The last highest number of July visitors we had recorded was in 2006.

“A total of 66,536 visitors were recorded for July this year compared to 59, 226 visitors for the same period last year.

“This is an increase of 12.3 per cent compared to the same month last year.

“January to July of this year has seen an increase of 19.6 per cent, so the figures are looking very good.”
The highest July visitor arrivals was recorded in the year 2006 with 59,645 visitors coming into the country.

Australian visitors has increased compared to same period last year by 19 per cent, NZ by 6 per cent, USA by 5 per cent, Canada by 5 per cent, Europe Continental by 0.7 per cent, South Korea by 57 per cent, Japan by 8 per cent, China 149 per cent, India by 15 per cent, and Taiwan by 45 per cent.

“While this figures are good, they are also very encouraging,” he said.

“This is an increase of 12.3 per cent compared to the same month last year.
