The Public Service Commission has announced the appointment of Lieutenant Colonel Ifereimi Vasu as the new Commissioner for Prisons and Correctional Services and Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni as the Commissioner Eastern.
In announcing the appointment, the PSC chairman Mr Josefa Serulagilagi said the commission with concurrence of the Prime Minister and approval of the President effected Lt. Col Vasu’s appointment.
Mr Serulagilagi said the position of Commissioner Prisons and Correctional Services was critical to the Public Service, which not only demanded outstanding leadership skills and qualities and also a person, who was prepared to make a difference in Government’s quest for change, transparency and accountability in reforming state institutions and bringing about improved efficiencies in their operations and deliverables.
He said Lt Col Vasu, given his leadership qualities and wide experience in the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces and the Civil Service, adequately fulfills the requirements in this regard and as such is the most suitable candidate to continue the excellent work carried out in this role by Brigadier Ioane Naivalurua, who will now focus specifically on his role as Commissioner of Police.
Lt Col Leweni’s appointment as Commissioner Eastern has been made by the commission in concurrence with the Prime Minister.
He replaces Lt. Colonel Vasu.
Lt Col Leweni’s secondment back into the Civil Service and subsequent appointment as Commissioner Eastern is also in view of his track record and proven experience and achievements in his earlier roles in the service.
Both appointments are effective immediately.
