The recent outbreak of typhoid is restricted to the Naitasiri highlands and poses no risk to tourism.
Typhoid cases have been discovered in around eight villages in Naitasiri.
Minister for Health Dr Neil Sharma said the outbreak does not pose any risk to tourist frequented areas.
The deputy secretary for public health, Dr Joe Koroivueta said there is a total of 43 suspected cases from the eight Naitasiri villages.
“There are no links to any other place in Fiji and the 10 hospitalised cases have been treated and are now at home. The suspected cases have been treated too,” Dr Koroivueta said.
He said the outbreak started on January 25.
Villagers will receive the typhoid vaccine to be administered by health teams that have mobilised to carry out the vaccination.
“No deaths were noted and there is no risks to tourists as access to the area is very limited and quite far from urban settings. There has not been any new cases seen I saw then,” Dr Koroivueta said.
