Tikina Udu community members have commended Government’s initiative in creating employment for the unemployed and for choosing Udu as one of the isolated rural settings for recruitment.

Tikina representative, Maikeli Sawaqa stated that this is a good opportunity for the members of the community and that they greatly appreciated the assistance.

“We’re appreciative to the Government for this worthy cause and for bringing us hope,” Mr Sawaqa said.

Minister for Employment Hon. Semi Koroilavesau highlighted that Government’s intention for recruiting unemployed persons from isolated rural areas and the maritime communities is to alleviate poverty.

“The flow in rural effect will add value to rural development through economic activity and enhance agricultural innovation,” said Minister Koroilavesau.

The Minister added that seasonal work requires people who are dedicated with a positive attitude and a clear focus.

The Ministerial Team registered 15 unemployed clients from Tikina Udu yesterday for seasonal work and will continue with registrations in Nadogo and Cakaudrove today.

Minister Koroilavesau has already visited the Northern Lau Group, Dawasamu, Nakorotubu, Nadarivatu, Kadavu, and the Lomaiviti Group for employment opportunities under the seasonal work programme.

The roadshow team will also meet with workers, employers and members of the community in Savusavu from 8.30am to 9.30am tomorrow (Thursday, 11th August).
