The Minister for Industry & Trade, Mr Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said “the United Nations Procurement Division Business & Vendor Registration Seminar proved to be a huge success in Fiji”.
The two seminars were hosted by the Ministry of Industry & Trade in conjunction with the Fiji Trade Commission (Los Angeles Office) from July 18 to 22 in Suva and Lautoka.
“I am pleased that through the effort of all involved in the seminar, various companies in Fiji have now been linked with the UN procurement system as potential suppliers of goods and services. I am particularly excited about the opportunities that this huge market of over US$13billion will create for our businesses,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.
“We certainly believe that Fiji’s businesses are competent enough to provide a wide range of goods and services to the UN. I would like to thank our Trade Commissioner in Los Angeles and Ambassador Peter Thompson of the Fiji Mission in New York for helping bring this seminar to Fiji.”
Fiji’s Trade Commissioner to the Americas, Mr Jitendra Singh said the response from businesses during the UN seminar was overwhelming.
“We had about 100 companies attending the seminar in Suva, while there were nearly 30 companies at the Lautoka seminar. Participants at the seminar interacted freely to clarify issues with UN’s procurement officer, Mr Kuchler, who conducted the seminar in Fiji.
“Most of these businesses were obviously attracted by the huge market the UN offered and eagerly registered as a supplier at both the seminars. We estimate that around 100 companies would have registered as potential suppliers with the UN Global Marketplace by the end of the seminar.”
“We request any business in Fiji that could not attend the seminar or complete their registration, to contact the Ministry of Industry & Trade, or the Fiji Trade Commission (Los Angeles Office), to facilitate your company’s registration with the UN,” Mr Singh said.
