USE SCHOOL GRANTS OR LOSE IT:EDUCATION MINISTER

28/01/2014

The Minister for Education, National Heritage, Culture, Arts and Library Services Filipe Bole has reminded schools heads and managements to responsibly use the school grants that were deposited into the school bank account earlier this year.

This was revealed after visiting 26 schools from Navua to Nausori corridor in the first week of the first term.

“School grants are to be utilized well in each term of the academic year. That is the very reason the three batches of grants were dispersed early January to all schools. The schools can utilize it to meet the needs of the school such as buying textbooks, new furniture, computers, construction of new classrooms and in the renovation of school buildings” said Minister Bole.

“The school grant is not to be saved and schools should not have surpluses in their account after a year. The children should benefit from the grant and should enjoy quality education in an environment that is conducive to learning,” the Minister said.

“If the schools do not use the grant, the remaining sum will be deducted from the allocation of the next terms grant. The audited financial report of 2013 should be with the Ministry of Education before the 31st of May in order for the Term 2 grants to be released,” concluded Ambassador Bole.

The Minister will visit schools in the western division next week.
