Unemployed youths upskilled
18/05/2010
Thirty unemployed youths in Rewa received their carpentry certificate on Friday (14/05) after five weeks training at Navatuyaba Village in the district of Toga, Rewa.
The training, the second for unemployed youths in the province, was sponsored by Government through the office of the Commissioner Central through a $6000-grant. Youth participants were from the district of Toga, Vutia, and Rewa.
Divisonal planining officer Rewa Mr Samuela Sadranu was chief guest on the day accompanied by the Roko Tui Rewa, Mr Niko Nayacalevu and Ruci Daveta from the Commissioner Central's office.
The Tui Toga and his people received the delegation in the traditional manner before guests viewed the various products created by the youths.

Mr Sadranu said the aim of the training was to engage unemployed youths in productive activities that could open up for them self-employment opportunities.
“Government supports this type of trainining to alleviate poverty and unemployment,” Mr Sadranu said.
The carpentry training was conducted by retired Government carpenter Mr Filipe Viviwa. Mr Viviwa has years of experience as a carpenter in various Government departments. He also hails from the village of Nukutubu, Rewa. The people of Nukutubu hold the traditional status of carpenters to the Roko Tui Dreketi.
The first such training for unemployed youths in the province was held this year in Nukutubu village.
