The Ministry of Education warns unregistered student transport providers they will not be reimbursed for transporting students to and from school unless they become registered.
The ministry says this is illegal and compromises the safety of our children and must stop immediately.
Only vehicles that have been licensed by the Land Transport Authority and boats approved by the Fiji Islands Maritime Safety Administration (FIMSA) may transport students and be compensated under the free bus fare scheme.
The ministry advices that no transport coupon must be given to transport providers that are not licensed and no money paid to them from the scheme.
All headquarter personnel, education district officers, principals and head teachers have been requested to strictly adhere to this instruction.
The safety of school children is of paramount importance and transport providers must know that.
