Villagers of Navatuyaba in Toga, Rewa will be able to access better roads after the construction of a non-access road funded by Government.
Village headman, Marika Nodravuki said the main source of income for the 30 families is farming and in the past villagers used to carry their produce on horse backs to the main road to sell.
“We are thankful to government for assisting the villagers with non-access road at least we are able to transport our produce to the market,” Mr Nodravuki said.
“We have a total of 30 families living in this village and we plant a variety of food crops and we transport our produce to Navua however we are pleading to Government if the road could be extended to other settlements,” Mr Nodravuki said.
The Commissioner Central office is conducting a week-long monitoring exercise on all 2013 capital projects that will be implemented in the central division.
Divisional Commissioner Laisenia Tuitubou highlighted that the office had conducted a series of surveys’ one of which was the construction of the non-cane access road at Nayarabale village in Toga Rewa.
“When communities request for funding we conduct our surveys and one of which is the economic benefits it will provide for the community with all of the information collated we then work with agriculture and other stakeholders the community are involved with,” Mr Tuitubou said.
“We also conduct profiling exercise if the cost benefit is higher than cost of the project then the project is not viable however if the economic benefit is more than the project then its viable for funding,” Mr Tuitubou said.
The project was completed within six months and the total costs of the construction for the non-cane access road cost $48,000.
