VISITED NORTHERN DISTRICTS GRATEFUL FOR GOVERNMENT’S NEW RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION CRITERIA

17/08/2016

The new recruitment and selection criteria has brought hope to most unskilled and unemployed rural dwellers in the Northern districts (tikinas) that were visited by the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Hon. Semi Koroilavesau during his week-long public consultations last week.

The Fijian Government has been commended by isolated districts that were affected during Tropical Cyclone Winston for giving hope to the unskilled individuals in opening employment opportunities under the seasonal work scheme and programme.

Minister Koroilavesau stressed that 80 per cent contribution for the successful rollout of Government’s initiative is attributed to the seasonal workers.

“Only 20 per cent is contributed by Government, hence the need to secure dedicated, good attitude and disciplined workers with a clear focus for this employment opportunity,” Minister Koroilavesau said.

The ministerial visit to Australia this year on the complaints received under the seasonal worker programme was due to the non-performance of certain individuals that were sent on the seasonal worker programme as their inexperience in agricultural farming and social interference diverted their attention away from the seasonal work focus.”

The Employment Minister reminded all Tikinas not to miss out on the assessment days for the Northern Division which is scheduled for Nabouwalu, Savusavu and Labasa from the 1st of September, 2016.
