The Government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is mandated and committed to enhancing the development of sport and physical activity in the country.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Parveen Kumar Bala, while officiating at the sports ground handover ceremony at Vunidawa District School yesterday (11/03/22).
"It is essential to lay a solid foundation for our people irrespective of demographic classification and free from any form of discrimination,” Minister Bala said.
Vunidawa District School received a 100 metres x 70 metres sports ground which cost the Ministry approximately more than $49,000.
He said there is overwhelming evidence demonstrating that increasing physical activity and physical fitness, through time in the school dedicated to recess, physical education classes, and physical activity in the curriculum, improve academic performance.
"Some academics and researchers have also concluded that mathematics and reading are the subjects that are most influenced positively by physical activity."
