01/11/2019

Approxinately 23,000 people in the districts of Nadogo, Dogotuki, Udu, and Namuka in Macuata are set to benefit from the new Government Station that will be constructed at Wainikoro, Macuata.

The ground breaking ceremony of the fully Government funded project of close to $1million is the beginning of six months construction work of a District Office and two residential quarters.

While officiating the ground breaking ceremony of the station this morning, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Hon. Dr. Mahendra Reddy said the new office would bring a sigh of relief to villages and communities, who previously needed to travel to Labasa Town to access basic government services.

Minister Reddy reiterated Government's commitment to enhancing service delivery to rural and maritime communities, emphasizing development of these communities as a priority agenda.

“I have been told that members of the communities of this locality and adjacent districts along the upper Macuata province have to travel by bus for hours or hire vehicles to travel to Labasa in order to get the services from government departments and corporate bodies. I am glad to announce today that this will no longer be the case after the construction of this new government station” said Dr Reddy.

He also added that through this newly constructed office, the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development would encourage co-location and co-sharing of services under the portfolios of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development and Waterways and Environment.

“We are not only bringing services to your doorstep, but we are also trying to ensure that we are efficient and smart, having an integrated approach in our outreach program in the most effective means”, said Dr. Reddy.

The new Government Station will provide the issuing of birth certificates, marriage certificates, canteen or hawkers licenses, development issues, security issues, food security and other ancillary services.
