The Fijian Government will continue to fund 950 Local National Toppers Scheme Scholarships.
The Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Hon. Rosy Akbar said this scheme will include medicine, engineering, technology and education as she officiated at the Nasinu Muslim College Prefects Investiture Ceremony.
It will also fund 20 Overseas Scholarships in relevant study programmes which are priority areas for Fiji.
Witnessing a total of 101 recipients for the prefect induction, Minister Akbar echoed the insightful words of Barack Obama, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones that we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”
“I bring to this Prefect investiture ceremony the same views today. You are the chosen leaders by your teachers and students, you are the instruments of change,” Minister Akbar said as she addressed the students.
“Don’t dwell on the past, drive forward and take the school to a new level.”
The Minister also highlighted the importance of empowerment, urging the teachers to take up that role.
“To the teachers of the school, we should also take ownership of the school vision. What better way to do that than to show the prefects the ideal way to handle situations.”
She added that positive and constructive words will increase the morale of the prefects.
“The country will expect nothing less than cultured and productive citizens.”
