WE MUST REMAIN VIGILANT – MINISTER SERUIRATU

17/01/2022

The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management continues to call on all Fijians to prepare well as we are still in the current cyclone season.

Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu highlighted this during his two-day visit to flood affected areas in the Northern Division.

According to the Fiji Meteorological Services, Fiji’s tropical cyclone risk in the 2021-2022 Cyclone Season is likely to be on average with 1 - 3 cyclones predicted to pass through Fiji’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

It is also forecasted that 2-3 SEVERE tropical cyclones (Category 3-5) will affect Fiji during the 2021-2022 Cyclone Season.

Minister Seruiratu said Fijians need to remain vigilant and take responsibilities seriously.

“Listen to the advice and let’s move when it is safe. We’re not out of the season yet and again, the prediction is we will have two or three tropical cyclones coming our way. We’ve gone through the first one and God forbid we do not know what’s coming next,” he said.

“We must continue to prepare and work together. We have Government agencies that are available. The Divisional Commissioners have to contact our local officials and continue to work together for the good of our people.”
