The Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Dr. Mahendra Reddy today visited all the new Technical Colleges in the western division that will open in February.
The Minister for Education met with the principal of the Technical Colleges in Rakiraki, Tavua and Lautoka and shared with them the vision of the FijiFirst government to train skilled tradesmen in these centres.
Globally, there is focused attention on enhancing training in the technical areas and Fiji is also developing these centres to provide the needed training for those that have a career in the trade skills areas.
Currently there are workers in these areas but they lack the necessary skills to meet the demands and expectations in the labour market. There will also be short courses available in these centres that are provided freely by the current government and the general public is invited to utilize this opportunity and attain relevant recognitions to enhance their skills in the labour market.
The Honourable Minister also attended the three-day training workshop conducted for all western Technical College teachers at the Dr. Shaukat Saheb Ali campus in Nadi. The Minister encouraged the teachers and stated that they play a pivotal role in the development of the new colleges and must work together to deliver the vision of the Bainimarama government.
