WORKERS CARRY OUT ROAD REHAB WORKS

17/06/2012

As road works take place across the country, the Fiji Roads Authority is confident that prevailing weather conditions will escalate works.

This weekend hundreds of workers were deployed to carry out rehab works on roads between the Lami and Suva corridor as well as the Queens Roads.

Authority director Bruce Paxton said one of the contributing factors to the deteriorating state of roads this year included consistent rainfall and floods that affected not only the Western Division but other parts of the country.

Mr Paxton said the prevailing weather conditions “make it viable for workers to continue works on damaged roads along those areas”.

“The Fiji Roads Authority is using the ‘Long Term Approach’ when it comes to addressing Fiji’s road problems because it’s about sustainability over a 20 to 30 year period,” Mr Paxton said.

Heavy duty patching combined with an increased focus on pothole patching has already started for the sealed road network.

Meanwhile, the authority is liaising with stakeholders to identify non tar sealed roads and address priority areas.
