Waila to become a self contained city

The Waila City project is designed to become a self contained city that will support a population of 25,000 people.

Top Symphony of Malaysia, managing director, Dr Sharifuddin Wahab made these remarks at the launching of the Waila City project.

Waila City will consist of various housing designs and these houses will be friendly to young couple who are starting life in the form of two rooms walk-up flats all the way to families requiring three to four bedrooms.

“With the slogan, ‘My home, My dream, My world,’ the project has also taken into account commercial, recreational and spiritual facilities,” Dr Wahab said.

The commercial developments cover shops, malls, food courts and a unique organised light industry for manufacturing.

Dr Wahab said Waila City project also offered recreational parks and educational facilities including space for primary secondary and tertiary schools and an international standard rugby stadium.

“We have also incorporated natural vegetation along the creek to preserve the natural environment as well,” he said.

Mr Wahab adds provisions have also been made for houses of worship with central area to accommodate churches, temples, mosques and a community hall.

Around the outskirt of the city, land to build chapels and smaller houses of worships are also provided.

The city center will also have a bus station and market adjacent to the mall where a hotel tower and office block is being designed, it will also include a police station, hospital and fire station.
 
The Waila City project have the following objectives:
·        To create a self contained city, with a distinctive character, compatible with 21st century era for the new generation of Fijians to live, work and play.
·        To provide a wide range of housing types within a safe, pleasant and attractive living environment.
·        To provide accessible and adequate community facilities.
·        To provide a comprehensive transportation network
·        To provide adequate open space and recreational area.
 
Dr Wahab added that Fiji , like any other developing country, could not run from urban migration phenomena.

The Lami – Nausori corridor is reputed for having the highest informal housing or squatter population in Fiji.
