The first ever travel media group from North America visiting Fiji had a Waitui breakfast at Warwick yesterday morning.
A total of 70 members of Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) Freelance Council are here to experience what Fiji offers in the tourism sector.
The breakfast was set up in shallow waters off the sea shore with Chef’s omelet station, two mermaids dressed and food displayed on the bilibili and canoe.
Council chair Micheal Smith said writers were marvelled with the warmth and generosity of the people and the council would do everything they could to promote Fiji.
Members of the council include writers, broadcasters, electronic journalists and photographers from prominent media organisation such as National Geographic.
Tourism Fiji chief executive Josefa Tuamoto stated the visit of writers was an opportunity to market Fiji.
“This is the biggest ever media group we have hosted from North America and it will definitely boost our marketing efforts in as far as raising awareness of Fiji as an ideal vacation destination,” Mr Tuamoto said.
After breakfast, the group went out to different sites such as Kula Eco Park and villages.
Later in the evening, the writers visited the media market place at Shangrila’s Fijian Resort where they were exposed to a variety of products that ranged from tourism operators to local vendors.
The Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed- Khaiyum will host dinner for the group at Naviti Resort this evening.
