War memorial project
War memorial project
10/06/2010
The construction of a National War Memorial and a War Museum is well underway with the first stages of roadwork's design and foundation progressing at the New Parliament Complex at Veiuto.
Today, a visit was made by the Royal British Legion to the Minister for Defence, National Security and Immigration, Ratu Epeli Ganilau as a gesture of the War veterans .
Fiji has been sending Fiji islanders to serve in the cause of world peace since the First World War resulting in the loss of over 300 lives of our people in the cause of their duty. However, to commemorate during Remembrance Day there is no central place as ceremonies are held in whatever central location in Suva and does not assist in nation building.
Cabinet set aside $500,000 for this project which is to include:
design, construct and unveil the clubhouse
steel railings and electrical works
statue of CPL Sefanaia Sukanaivalu
museum
water garden
pavilion
