The Fiji Bureau of Statistics will celebrate World Statistics Day at the Sukuna Park this Wednesday, October 20.
The principal statistician (Coordination & Information Services), Mr Toga Raikoti said there would be a march through the city to Sukuna Park.
There will be displays by statistical units of other ministries like health, education, and Police.
“The Bureau will conduct presentations to all major stakeholders on what we compile and the implications and challenges of compilations,” Mr Raikoti said.
“The importance of the day is to celebrate the many achievements of statistics and make people aware of the importance of statistics in our economy.
“Statistics are crucial to economic and social development. They generate public debate and contribute to the progress of our nation. They are indispensable to academic research and the development of businesses and the civil society. Statistics ultimately serves everyone in society.”
Official statistics provide an indispensable element in the information system of a society, serving the Government, the economy and the public with data about the economic, demographic, social and environmental situation.
