YOUTH MINISTRY EMPOWERS NABORO INMATES

The Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with the Fiji Correctional Services conducted the Seeds of Success Empowerment programme to inmates at the Medium Naboro Correctional Centre.

Presenting the certificates was the Ministry of Youth and Sports permanent secretary Mr Joseva Sania who in his address thanked the Fiji Correctional Services in working to ensure that participants are given another opportunity for learning especially by providing avenues for education and training.

“The right to education is a universal entitlement to education, a right that is recognised as a human right,” emphasised Mr Sania.

He also told the participants that only through commitment can they succeed in the program.

“Don’t let other people stop you from trying your best,” stressed the Permanent Secretary.

Luke Ravuwai who has two more years to serve said that the empowerment programme was timely for those of them who were about to be released.

The participants also had a’ talanoa session’ (informal talks) with the Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has been conducting empowerment programmes for young people in the Correctional Services Centres throughout Fiji.
