A group of youths, who donated stationery packs to students from unfortunate backgrounds as part of their “Back to School” assistance program, is calling on the public to join their worthy cause.

The Youth-based Community Organisation made up of school leavers and students from the Newtown area outside Suva has been constantly fundraising to assist its community.

The organisation’s president Ritesh Prasad, says the group, which is inviting the public to join their cause, is doing what it does “because members care for the children and because we are adults and we should be able to help others ”.

“A lot of youths are involved in crime, and are offenders, therefore a few of us have decided to form the group so we can make a difference and help our community even though we are unemployed,” added Prasad.

A representative from the Department of Youth and Sports was also invited to present the stationery packs to nominated students on Saturday, January 14.

Members of the group have also been part of various workshops, including the “Money Minded” workshop conducted by the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ Fiji) and the Seeds of Success Training facilitated by the Department of Youth and Sports.

The Youth-based Community Organisation has also been recognised by the Department of Youth and Sports to be the mentoring youth group for the Nasinu area because of activities they have organised.
