Youth workers undergo life skills training

22/02/2011

Ten youth workers and volunteers in Lautoka will undergo training to become trainers for the Seeds of Success empowerment programme.

Held over a two-day period, beginning Wednesday at the Waterfront Hotel, the training will be facilitated by Department of Youth and Sports officials .

The training will equip youth workers and volunteers with the ability and skill to effectively deliver the 12 principles of the Seeds of Success programme in positively empowering the lives of young people.

Seeds of Success is an empowerment programme that grew out of the Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) programme adopted by the Ministry of Youth some years ago.

PMA was based on the work of Napolean Hill, a young American who interviewed wealthy American businessmen inorder to understand the attitudes and bahavior that led to their success.

The programme was reviewed in late 2007 and reformulated to cover the following training goals:

a) Increase youths’ confidence and belief in themselves.
b) Motivate youths to create productive, satisfying lives.
c) Increase youths’ potential for success in their work and in their
personal life

This is the department’s second training of trainers after 10 youth workers and volunteers were trained in Labasa last week.
