Zero tolerance for corruption in Fiji

17/11/2011

Fijian authorities do not have a record filed by American, Ken Honig that he was prevented from leaving Fiji.

The Office of the Attorney-General says a thorough investigation will be conducted if Mr Honig submits an official complaint.

“There is zero tolerance for corruption in Fiji,” Attorney-General Mr Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum said.

“The Bainimarama Government insists that Fiji maintains a business climate that is supportive of foreign investors. We have enacted and enforce numerous laws that ensure the cronyism and corruption of the past are no longer.”

The Attorney-General notes that Mr Honig has been investigated for violating Fijian laws by allegedly importing a non-native species, the American Iguana, in 2000 and 2003.

The non-native iguanas have multiplied exponentially and have become a pest to humans and a danger to the environment.

The Bainimarama Government has put in place stricter laws governing such violations.
