The Public Service Commission has a policy of zero tolerance on instances of abuse, mismanagement and corruption by civil servants.
Mr Josefa Serulagilagi, Chairman of the PSC said the Commission is committed to Governments resolve to weed out abuse of statutory privileges, mismanagement and corruption within the Public Service.
He said the Commission has accordingly intensified its processes, consideration and determination of such cases.
“When it comes to cases of abuse and corrupt practices leading to loss of revenue and efficiency of Government, the Commission has zero tolerance.Obviously the principle of fairness and natural justice applies in dealing with disciplinary cases involving abuse, mismanagement and corruption. Once the cases are properly processed and heard by the Public Service Disciplinary Tribunal, the Commission quickly moves in, to hear mitigation and accordingly determines penalties.”
The timeframe for all these is 3-9months, with the Commission committed to reducing it further.
Mr Serulagilagi said that at its monthly meeting today, the Commission dealt with 10 disciplinary cases. Out of these, there were 4 cases of conviction and termination.
