This was the key message from the Minister for Information Hon. Lynda Tabuya, as she opened the two-day retreat for the Ministry of Information and the National Archives of Fiji staff on Tuesday (02/09/2025).
Minister Tabuya emphasised that the Ministry’s work went beyond press releases and news stories, focusing on giving all Fijians access to truthful, timely, and empowering information.
“Be anchored in our vision; never forget why we are here. Our vision is for a well-informed Fiji, where information empowers participation, unity, and progress. Hold on to that as your compass,” Minister Tabuya advised the staff.
“Work with integrity and excellence. Every word we release, every broadcast we make, and every message we craft must reflect truth, professionalism, and respect. Integrity is our currency, and once lost, it is hard to regain."
“Let us remember the rural farmer waiting on the radio for cyclone updates, the student searching for government scholarship information, or the elderly parent wanting to understand a policy in their own language. They are who we serve.”
The Minister said the officers at the Ministry were not just communicators but nation builders, carrying the torch of truth in an age of misinformation, defending Fiji’s digital space against lies and division, and amplifying the voices of the people so that no one is left behind.
“Let us recommit ourselves to speak with clarity, to serve with courage, and to inform with integrity because when the Ministry of Information is strong, Fiji is strong.”
The retreat was organised to discuss, plan and finalise the corporate plan and the strategic plan for the Ministry.
