The decisions of Cabinet at its meeting today include the following:

Establishment Of Drug Rehabilitation Centre Within The Fiji Corrections Service
Cabinet approved the establishment of a Drug Rehabilitation Centre within the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS).

The centre within the FCS will ensure that targeted interventions are provided for convicted drug offenders with opportunities to reform and reintegrate successfully back into society.

The drug rehabilitation programmes in the centre will comply with standards set by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

Pristine Seas Initiative Memorandum of Understanding with National Geographic Society
Cabinet endorsed the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding with National Geographic Society (NGS) on the Pristine Seas Initiative.

The Pristine Seas Initiative is spearheaded by the National Geographic Society and aims to explore, document, and protect some of the last wild places in the ocean.

The expedition within Fiji's waters is expected to contribute to marine conservation efforts as well as monitor the impacts of climate change on ocean biodiversity.

Adjustment to Fees and Charges for Nausori Town Council
Cabinet approved fees and charges to be charged by the Nausori Town Council for market stall rentals at the newly constructed Nakasi Market.

This is in addition to updates to fees for market stalls approved in September last year for Levuka, Rakiraki, and Tavua. Revisions to Public Service Vehicle (PSV) base fees, user-pay public conveniences, and garbage collection services for Rakiraki and Tavua, were also approved.

All changes will come into effect once the relevant By-laws are published in the gazette.

Fiji to Host the 2025 Pacific Public Service Leaders Conference
Cabinet agreed that Fiji host the 2025 Pacific Public Service Leaders Conference (Fono 2025) later this year.

The Fono provides a platform for Pacific public service leaders to share experiences, discuss public sector challenges, and explore solutions, with a focus on strengthening public administration in the Pacific.

New Zealand and Australia will participate as key partners, providing technical and practical support.

Issuance of State Grant (Formerly Crown Grant) to Robert Pearson Miller Currently held by Director of Lands as State Land without Title
Cabinet approved to issue a State Grant (formerly Crown Grant) to Robert Pearson Miller through conversion of a closed road surveyed and registered as Survey Office (SO) plan reference, Lot 1 SO 2991.

In the early 1970’s, the discussion on the acquisition of land (part of CT 11589) between the Director of Lands and the Millers were carried out to facilitate the construction of the Suva-Nadi Highway.

Now that the Suva-Nadi Highway has been completed as acquired, the ‘conversion’ of the Closed Old Queens Road to its former tenure has been approved as the purpose of use through acquisition is no longer required.
