ADDRESS FOR MINISTER FOR AGRICULTURE AND WATERWAYS OFFICIAL LAUNCHING OF NATIONAL AGRICULTURE SHOW 2024 HONOURABLE VATIMI RAYALU

Dear members of the media,

Today, I would like to officially announce that the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways will have the National Agriculture Show from the 15th-18th of October, 2024 at the Valelevu Grounds in Nasinu.

With the theme: Empowering Farmers, Cultivating Resilience through Innovation and Inclusiveness in Climate Smart Agriculture, this premier event will bring together farmers, industry leaders, agricultural experts, and enthusiasts from across the nation to celebrate the latest advancements in agriculture and sustainable practices.

We will be showcasing the services that we provide on a daily basis in our stations across Fiji and also educate the general public on the importance of agriculture and how we must work together to grow the agricultural sector in the country.

This year, we will hold side events where members of the public can participate in hands- on sessions and discussions led by experts on topics ranging from soil health to smart farming techniques. Keynote speakers will be invited to share their insights on the future of agriculture as well as offer valuable perspectives on the intersection of technology, sustainability, and food security

At the National Agriculture Show 2024, you will witness real-time demonstrations of new machinery and equipment designed to increase efficiency and productivity as well as various technologies on grafting and marcotting of fruit trees and so forth.

I am pleased to announce that a Farmers Village will also be set up at the grounds where our farmers will be able to showcase their produce and value-added products.

The Animal Health and Production Division will be demonstrating several key aspects of their work like Urea Mollases Block and silage making, the wonders of biogas, electrical fencing, semen collection for boars as well as a pet show which will be coordinated with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

This year, We will also model new livestock breeds such as our Beef breeds [Wagyu, Senepol, Brown Swiss and Droughtmaster] and the same also goes for our pigs, sheep and goats. 

We will also have demonstrations from our teams at the Crop Research and Crop Extension Divisions and will also have a Plant Health Clinic.

Our Juncao experts will also be present to showcase all the work that they are doing in Legalega, Nadi with Juncao Grass and mushrooms.

The dedicated team of officers will be ready to answer all your queries. We will help you to connect with fellow professionals and potential partners in a dynamic and engaging environment. I would also like to thank the sponsors that have come on board to help us with this year's agriculture show.

This year, if you visit the agriculture show, you will be able to enjoy a variety of activities suitable for all ages, including interactive exhibits, farm-to-table food experiences, and more.

In the coming weeks, my team of dedicated officers will be highlighting everything that will be happening at the four days agriculture show using various mediums like talkback shows and radio programs.
