27/04/2024

The Principal, Suva Grammar School, Mr. Iosefo Masivue;
The Suva Grammar School PTA President, Mr. Ilaisa Vula Lakepa;
Members of the Teaching Staff;
Parents and students of Suva Grammar School;
Old Scholars and friends of Suva Grammar School;

Ni sa bula vinaka and a very good morning to you all.

It is with immense pleasure that I join you today at the Suva Grammar School Family Fun Day.

Such events are a wonderful reminder of the strength and vibrancy of our community. They underscore the essential role that education plays in nurturing our future leaders, thinkers, and citizens.

As we gather here on the grounds of Suva Grammar School, we stand on a site that has evolved significantly since its inception, reflecting our nation's educational ambitions and communal values.

Suva Grammar School, with its rich history dating back to 1918, began as a beacon of learning on the reclaimed lands near Suva's heart. Originally serving as a boys' grammar school, it has grown alongside our community to become a coeducational bastion that champions academic excellence and character development. This place, where land and sea meet, mirrors the school's journey from humble beginnings to a landmark of learning in Fiji.

I understand that the revival of the school’s PTA has been instrumental in fostering a nurturing environment that extends beyond academic achievements to include extracurricular success and community engagement.

In line with the Denarau Declaration and Strategic Plan for 2023-2026 for the Education Ministry, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our education partners.

This plan underscores the importance of collaboration among stakeholders—including our dedicated PTA—to achieve educational excellence in Fiji.

Our collective efforts and the active involvement of every stakeholder ensure that our students not only excel academically but also grow into well-rounded individuals.

The upcoming Diamond Jubilee of Suva Grammar School in May is a significant milestone in your esteemed history.

Congratulations to all members of the Grammar family, both past and present, as you celebrate this momentous occasion.

Although I am a proud old scholar from Ratu Kadavulevu School—a friendly rival, if you will—I extend my warmest regards and heartfelt best wishes as an admirer of your achievements.

May this reunion serve as a testament to the unity and shared spirit of excellence that connects all educational institutions, no matter their colors.

Let us continue to support one another and inspire our students to reach new heights.

May today's festivities remind us of our shared commitment to nurture a resilient, inclusive, and forward-thinking educational community.

Vinaka vakalevu.
