Distinguished Guests
Ladies and gentlemen
It is with immense pleasure and a deep sense of honour that I welcome you all to this momentous occasion—the official opening of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Pacific Liaison Office for the Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS) here in Fiji.
On behalf of the Fiji Government and its people I’d like to wish you all a Big Bula Vinaka, Namaste, Noa’ia and again Welcome!!
We gather today to celebrate a significant milestone in our collective efforts to enhance aviation cooperation and support for the PSIDS. This liaison office symbolizes our unwavering commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by our region and fostering sustainable development in aviation.
I extend a special welcome to our chief guest, whose presence here underscores the importance of this initiative. Your support and participation are invaluable as we embark on this new chapter of collaboration and progress. I also want to warmly welcome the ICAO Regional Director for the Asia
Pacific Region, Mr. Tao Ma, the Minister for Civil Aviation, Marine and Ports from the Kingdom of Tonga, our international partners, regional stakeholders, and representatives from various aviation bodies. Your continued dedication and partnership have been instrumental in making this vision a reality.
The establishment of the ICAO Pacific Liaison Office in Nadi is a testament to our shared resolve to improve aviation safety, security, and sustainability. This office will serve as a vital hub for communication, technical support, and capacity-building, tailored to meet the specific needs of the Pacific Small Island Development States or PSIDS. With a dedicated ICAO Liaison Officer based here, we are poised to facilitate closer cooperation and more effective responses to the unique challenges our Region faces.
The Government of Fiji has been a steadfast advocate for aviation excellence, and this is evident in the hosting of this office here in Fiji. We are very proud of this partnership.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Pacific region's aviation sector is at a pivotal point. Our islands depend on reliable and efficient air transportation to connect globally, promote tourism, and drive economic growth. The ICAO Pacific Liaison Office will play a critical role in supporting these objectives by enhancing our regional aviation capabilities and ensuring that our skies are safer and more secure.
Additionally the Pacific is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, and it is imperative that our aviation practices are aligned with global sustainability goals.
And we envisage working collaboratively with the ICAO Pacific Liaison Office to promote green aviation initiatives and reduce our carbon footprint.
As we celebrate this inauguration, let us also acknowledge the tireless efforts of all those who have contributed to this achievement. Your dedication, hard work, and vision have laid the foundation for what we celebrate today. This office stands as a testament to your commitment to advancing aviation in the Pacific.
In conclusion, I am confident that the ICAO Pacific Liaison Office for PSIDS will serve as a beacon of progress, cooperation, and innovation. Together, we will overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and build a brighter, more connected future for all our islands.
Thank you all for being here today and for your continued support. May this Liaison Office be a shining example of what we can achieve through collaboration and shared purpose.
Thank You
