HOLI MESSAGE BY THE MINISTER FOR WOMEN, CHILDREN & POVERTY ALLEVIATION HON. ROSY AKBAR
19/03/2022
Namaste Fiji.
On the occasion of Holi, on behalf of the staff and management of the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, I wish all Fijians a very happy Holi, a festival that symbolizes the vibrant colours of “our diverse multi-cultural society and the spirit of tolerance and harmony that has been the essence of our culture and tradition. Holi brings the spirit of care, love, forgiveness, kindness, compassion, peace and togetherness. Playing with colors resonates with the pranks that Lord Krishna played as a child; the commemoration also represents the joy of harvesting for farmers; and it is the one event that brings people of various backgrounds together and by the end of the celebration, one cannot tell the difference between the people who celebrate it we are all painted in the same color, standing united in oneness.
This unique festival of colours be a joyous expression of the spirit of pluralism. May it strengthen the fraternal bonds amongst our Fijian citizens. There are many families who may not be celebrating the festival this year. Therefore, I ask that we celebrate the festival in the true sense, spirit by spreading joy, sharing and coloring up the spirits for others. Let's extend a hand to help the needy and enjoy the festival with responsibility towards the vulnerable members of our communities.
Fiji is known for its diversity and Holi has always been made extra special with the coming together of people of different backgrounds, cultures and races to celebrate and enjoy the festivity. May the spirit of oneness and multiculturalism be renewed this Holi and continue to thrive within our homes and hearts.
I encourage all Fijians to promote awareness on eliminating abuse and neglect of children, abuse and neglect of older persons, abuse and neglect of family members with disabilities, and violence against women and girls during this Holi Celebration.
Once again, we wish all the people of our country on the auspicious occasion of Holi the festival of colours.
God Bless Fiji.
