DINFO 04/2025 - INFORMATION OFFICER (FIJI FOCUS/PUBLICATION)

CORPORATE INFORMATION 

Salary Band: Band F

Salary Range: $24,261.72 - $30,615.98

Reports to: Senior Information Officer (Fiji Focus)

Liaise with: Staff in the Department, other Ministries and stakeholders 

Subordinates: Assistant Information Officer and Media Assistant

Duty Station: Suva
 

POSITION PURPOSE 

The purpose of this position is to be responsible for writing feature articles for the Fiji Government publication, developing media releases, generating content for website and social media as well as taking high quality photographs in a studio or on locations as required for the Department of Information.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The position will achieve its purpose through the following key duties:

1. Provide accurate, timely, informative and engaging write-ups/articles/content for the Fiji Government publication, Fiji Focus, under the supervision of SIO Fiji Focus

2. Develop coverage plan/strategic document in line with Government's priorities, goals and aspirations 

3. Carry out research and undertake groundwork to ensure facilitation and delivery of interviews and required responses 

4. Organise, deliver/execute and store photographic content of the publication team and the news team as and when required 

5. Assist in sub-editing content and relevant publication as and when required 

6. Any other duties assigned by the Permanent Secretary. 
 

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

Performance will be measured through the following indicators:

1. Timely delivery of articles, news articles and photographs for government publication across various channels especially the Fiji Government publication;

2. Review sets of photographs and select the best result to be used for government publications;

3. Maintain digital records of media coverage and collate analytics;

4. Ensure proper maintenance and storage of production equipment;

5. Effective subordinate supervision through implementation of work plans, performance management and capacity building;

6. All reports to be submitted within agreed timeframe and meets the standards set.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

A Degree in Journalism / Media / Literature from a recognized tertiary institution OR 4 years’ proven experience in Media / Journalism related field.

 

The following Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities are required to successfully undertake this role; 

 

Knowledge and Experience  

1. Proven experience in media platform and at least 4 years’ experience in a communications or marketing role;

2. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Adobe Illustrator;

3. Understanding of communications, public relations, social media channels and marketing best practices is an asset. 

 

Skills and Abilities 

1. Demonstrate good verbal, written and editing skills in the English language;

2. Practical, working knowledge of all aspects of news and photography;

3. Ability to write compelling, concise press releases, news feature articles and statements;

4. Ability to write news feature articles;

5. Possess strong work ethic;

6. Able to work under strict deadlines;

7. Strong creative presence and artistic flair;

8. Ability to assist in coordinating programs;

9. Flexible to travel to locations, being resourceful and takes initiatives;

10. Demonstrate working knowledge on the use of Adobe Creative Cloud including Photoshop
 

Personal Character and Eligibility

All applicants for employment in the Department of Information must be of good character, with a background that demonstrates their commitment to the civil service values contained in the Fiji Constitution.  Applicants must also be Fiji Citizens, under the age of 60 years, in sound health, with a clear police record. The selected applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance prior to taking up the position.
